Hey, y'all! Welcome back to Merchantsville, Georgia for the second book in the Hunter Jones series.
When a river flood divides Magnolia County in half, it brings a mystery along with it. Whose body is in the old wooden casket that came over a collapsing dam? The questions keep coming. How will Deputies Skeet Borders and Bub Williston make their voices heard over seven barking pit bulls? Is the local sociopath a murderer or just a thief? What possessed a beautiful artist to marry plain old high school dropout, Grady Bennett?
And, on top of all that, how will Hunter, who's in love with Sheriff Sam Bailey, cope with the news that Sam’s ex-wife, country music singer Rhonda Ransom, is coming back home?
Keep following this series to follow these characters and meet more. There are now eight Hunter Jones mysteries. The next in this series is "When I am Dead my Dearest."

Charlotte Moore has done it again....written another whodunit that kept me guessing about who-done-it until the very end. Death Over the Dam, featuring reporter Hunter Jones and the intrepid investigators of the sheriff's department in Magnolia County, Georgia, has an intricate plot and an array of eccentric characters. I won't be a spoiler by telling you too much about the plot, but be assured that this second book in the Hunter Jones series is a real page-turner. Death Over the Dam A Hunter Jones Mystery Book 2 edition by Charlotte Moore Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Love this series! Very well written, very believable characters and just an all round great whodunit! I've not been disappointed any of of the books I've had the pleasure to read to date, even having read them out of order. Can't wait to read more !!
While the characters are good, and the plot is decent, the grammar, missing text and change in character names make it hard to follow. Whoever edited this book, or digitized it should be fired for such a lousy job.
Somehow I started reading this series at the end and then went in search of the other books; I came across this one and thought it was the first of the series. Even though it wasn't it could still follow the characters and plotlines. I loved the story and was very pleased with how the author handled the body in the coffin ending. I loved the fraud twist, too. I've since found all of the Hunter Jones books and have started reading them in order. I'll probably re-read the ones I read out of order just to keep the entire story straight.
Great job, Ms. Moore!
Really good storyline. Great characters and backup characters, with some real depth to them. A good mystery that kept me guessing for awhile. This is not an "edge of your seat, stay up all night" mystery, but it's a good one! Four stars for several typos and lack of good editing. I've seen much worse though! I look forward to more by this author with hopes of better editing.
This second book has me already wishing I could move on to the next book in this really great mystery series. There are so many twists, turns, and layers to this latest plot that I stayed up late just to discover an ending that took me by surprise. Charlotte Moore understands life in a small Southern town and takes readers into the story instead of leaving us to observe. There is a good grasp of police procedures and a working knowledge of newspaper journalism that adds to the mystery of not one, but two bodies. Buy the first book too to better know Hunter, the sheriff, and their neighbors. This is a solid mystery series that will leave you wanting to move on to the yet unpublished third book.
I like several sorts of mystery novels, from serious historicals to madcap capers, but a delightful "cozy" often becomes a favorite "comfort [re]read" even once the mystery is no mystery anymore. Lately, though, I've had trouble finding new cozy authors whose stories don't go over the top trying to create their own brand of eccentric characters or silliness. The best thing about the e-book revolution is also the worst so many ill-edited unknowns to wade through to find little gems like this, which I spotted on sale and which immediately drew me in by the sample -- BTW, I LOVE being able to sample new authors & series!
There's a fine mix of Southern charm, with friendship, family, and a bit of romance, in well-drawn characters who feel believable and worth spending time with. Yes, there are a few typos, but nothing major, and you're liable to find that even in bound books .
This stand-alone is difficult to follow due to editing and formatting errors. No graphic violence or drag-you-down drama.
Intriguing storyline with plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. Believable dialogue and characters with distinct personalities.
No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.
